WHAT WE DO?
The Center of Waste Management Indonesia (CWMI), the first of its kind in Indonesia, was established in 2012 with the intention of serving the community and all stakeholders by helping its environment become more green and clean through an integrated and sustainable waste management system based on technology.

HYDROTHERMAL WASTE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY
Hydrothermal Treatment processes waste materials by making them react with high-temperature and high-pressure steam (maximum 230 °C or 30 bar) inside the reactor. After about a half hour of treatment, the result is a germ-free, useful output ranging from solid fuel and fertilizer to liquid fertilizer or livestock food.

PERTAMINA COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY
The Energy Forum, held on December 12-13 in The Raffles Hotel, Jakarta, carried the theme “Striving Towards Sustainable Energy,” which is highly relevant to the current situation, in which world energy utilization has started to shift from fossil fuels to sustainable energy. In Indonesia, domestic demand for developing renewable energy resource potential is also on the rise as fossil-based energy reserves continue to decline.

Dr. Eng. Bayu Indrawan, SE, ST, MT, researcher, technology innovator, and expert on waste management and renewable energy, has been working intensively in the energy and environment sectors since 2003. He was invited to chair several international events, workshops, and sessions and also deliver keynote speeches and invited lectures at several international conferences. He was also invited to attend several prestigious professional international programs, e.g., the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2014 by the U.S. Department of State.
He received a Doctoral Degree (Dr. Eng.) in Environmental Science and Technology (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan) with a focus on waste-to-energy technology supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, Japan, with fully funded scholarships. He obtained a double bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (University of Sriwijaya, Indonesia) and Economics (University of IBA, Indonesia) and also a master's degree in Electrical Engineering (University of Indonesia) with a minor in renewable energy.
As one of the youngest doctoral graduates from Indonesia, he is a member of the Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council, the Japan Institute of Energy, and The International Solid Waste Association. He is the founder and director of the Center of Waste Management Indonesia, the first of its kind research center in Indonesia, with the intention of serving the community and all stakeholders by helping its environment become greener and cleaner through research, development, and implementation of an integrated and sustainable waste management system based on technology. He also served as a lecturer at the University of Indonesia and Surya University, a pioneering research-based university in Indonesia.
He is the technology innovator of hydrothermal waste treatment technology, the first commercial scale of integrated municipal solid waste treatment technology in Indonesia, located in Summarecon Serpong, Tangerang. He also developed and implemented pilot-scale and commercial-scale conversion of plastic waste to oil by pyrolysis technology in Indonesia.
